Garbage disposals are awesome. Giant posters of high school sports teams? Normal, but only in recent years (hell, my local high school — the size of a medium university — sells life-sized posters of kids to the families as a fundraiser. It seems just a wee bit egocentric to me.)
I’ve always used “quite” as like tongue-in-cheek enthusiasm, as in “sort of”. So I guess more British than American. The German have the word “ganz” which depending on context can mean “very” or “just a little.” It causes problems.
